Jean Ellen VanBeek, 81, of Coralville, formerly of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Jean’s life will be from 2-5 pm on Sunday, February 11 at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road in Coralville. Memorials may be made to the Jean VanBeek Memorial Fund.

Jean was born on December 9, 1936 in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Stanley and Irene (Miller) Webster. She was raised and graduated from high school in Oxford and still to this day, maintained many friendships with her childhood friends and classmates.

For over 15 years, Jean owned and operated the Coral Beauty Salon. She also went on to work for The Lark for many years and ACT before retiring. Jean was a hard worker who always stayed busy but in her free time, enjoyed collecting pigs (of any variety), loved to gamble, play cards, liked to garden, watch Columbo, Iowa Hawkeye Basketball, horse racing and golf. Most importantly, Jean loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include her two children: Amy (Scott) Heumphreus of Coralville and Peter (P.J.) VanBeek of North Liberty; four siblings: Janet McCabe of Coralville, Larry Webster of Davenport, JoAnn Webster of Iowa City, and Gary (Kristie) Webster of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren: Dalton (DeeDee Rivera) VanBeek of Oxford, Shelby Heumphreus and Riley Heumphreus both of Coralville, and Curtis Heumphreus of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Irene, and infant son Peter Joseph VanBeek and a grandson Morgan Heumphreus.
