Gene A. Davidsmeyer, 81, of Iowa City (formerly of Naperville, IL), passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Mercy Hospice Care Unit.

Services are planned for Saturday, February 10 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m at Lensing Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gene was born on February 1, 1937 in Jacksonville, IL, the son of Arthur and Edna (Newby) Davidsmeyer. He received his MBA from Northwestern in June of 1968. Gene was united in marriage to Carol Heilenbach on June 30, 1962; she preceded him in death on July 22, 2015. He was an accountant for several firms throughout his career, retiring in 2008. Gene and Carol created and displayed Department 56 lighted porcelain houses, winning many awards. He enjoyed woodworking, doting on his granddaughter, and was an avid reader.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Susan (Karl) Davidsmeyer-Bullinger of Iowa City and their daughter, Ella Bullinger; son, Mark Davidsmeyer of Augusta, GA; and furry companion, Sugar.
