E. Richard “Dick” Dustin, 81, having enjoyed a long and happy life passed away Tuesday, January 16th.

Visitation will be Thursday at 9 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 2701 Rochester Ave., Iowa City followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 10AM. Reverend Sam Massey will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church or Table to Table www.table2table.org.

Dick was born June 27th, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio to Earl Dustin and Lucille Harris Dustin. Dick graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1954, where he was the senior class president. Dick and Pat Mills were high school sweethearts and they married on June 8th 1957. Dick accepted the George F. Baker Scholarship from Grinnell College, graduating in 1958. He taught English in Cherokee, IA coached debate and taught English at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School, and counseled students at Roosevelt Junior High School in Cedar Rapids. Dick completed his Master’s Degree in Counseling from University of Iowa in 1962. He received a National Defense Education Scholarship from the University of Minnesota to complete his PhD in Counseling Psychology in 1968. Dick taught at the University of Missouri - St. Louis.

Dick and Pat returned home to Iowa City in 1972 and the University of Iowa. Dick enjoyed many years teaching at the University as a Professor of Counseling, Rehabilitation, and Student Development, retiring in 1999. Most important to Dick was his family. He was great friend, avid reader, walker, traveler and Hawkeye sports fan.

Dick is survived by his wife, Pat Dustin, two children, Rob (Julie) Dustin of Franklin, TN, Susan Dustin of Normal, IL; and four grandchildren, Grace, Matthew, Mabel and Kate.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim.
