The Removal of a Respected and Long-Time Resident of This Vacinity
His death occurred Monday at 1:10 o'clock a.m., at his residence in this city. He had been in poor health for a long time, but was taken much worse about four weeks ago, since which time his decline was rapid. His death was caused from cancer of the pancreas. At his bedside when the end came were a son, M. W. Schrader, and two daughters, Miss Katie Schrader of Kalona and Mrs. Eva Troyer of Sharon Center.
Christian Schrader was born in Unesdorff, Steffenhogen, Germany, August 15, 1891, and died at Kalona, Iowa October, 18, 1902, at the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 28 days. He was united in holy matrimony with Friderica Hanna Dora Monk Oct. 20, 1840. Their union was blessed with nine children - seven sons and two daughters. Of these there remain to mourn his loss four sons and two daughters. Three sons and his companion preceded him to the land beyond. The deceased came with his family to America in November, 1853, and located in New Jersey where he lived 4 years and 6 months, and came to Iowa in 1858, settling near Sharon Center, whre he resided until moving to Kalona in 1893. He united with the Evangelical Association (now the United Evangelical Church of Sharon Center) 38 years ago, and has lived a faithful and consistent christina life. He was respected by neighbors and friends for his kindly dispostion and upright character.
The funeral was held from the United Evangelical Church of Sharon Center at 12 o'clock, Wednesday, Rev. S. H. Strayfeller officiating. There was a large attendance. The children who were present were Benjamin Schrader of Thornburg, M. W. Schrader of Lakefield, Minn., Mrs. Troyer of Sharon Center and Miss Katie Schrader of Kalona. Another son, F. I. Schrader of Kansas City was unable to be present.
Interment was made in the cemetary near the church.
