Thelma G. Kornegor, 104, formerly of 18 Leamer Court, Iowa City, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory, of Columbia, Missouri will have visitation for Thelma on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City.

A private burial service will be conducted at St. Stanislaus (Hills) Cemetery, in Hills, Iowa.

Mrs. Thelma Kornegor was born on October 27, 1913 in Johnson County. Her parents were Alex and Vera (Gross) Gringer. She married Ralston R. Kornegor, on August 5, 1940, at St. Joseph Church in Hills, Iowa.

Ralston and Thelma owned and operated a grocery store, in Iowa City, at the corner of Muscatine and Burlington Street for many years.

Thelma later worked for Dunlap Motors and logged over 2,000 hours of volunteer work at the University of Iowa Hospital. At the age of 100, Thelma moved to Provision Living, located in Columbia, Missouri. She made many friends and loved playing cards, almost daily, with anyone who liked Bridge or “Hand & Foot”.

Thelma is survived by one son Tom and wife, Vicky of Lake Elmo, Minnesota; one daughter, Ginger, and husband, Dan Schapira of Columbia, Missouri; grandchildren: Todd and wife Susan Schapira, Casey and husband Aaron Augspurg, Courtney Schapira, Pepper and husband Terrance Oliver, Troy and wife Melissa Kornegor, Chad and wife Angela Kornegor, Kelly Kornegor; great grandchildren: Abi and T.J. Schapira, Ralston and Delaney Augspurg, Chase and Sydney Oliver, Coleden and Mira Kornegor.

Her husband, three sisters, and one granddaughter Morley Kornegor preceded her in death.
