Leonard B. Slach, 62, died Sunday at University Hospitals after a heart attack.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the West Branch United Methodist Church, with burial in the West Branch Cemetery. The Rev. Sang K. Ro will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the West Branch Chapel of the Barker Funeral Home. A memorial fund for the rescue unit of the West Branch Fire Department has been established.

Mr. Slach was born June 4, 1928, near Plato in Cedar County, the son of James and Bessie Loder Slach. He married Carol Byers April 24, 1948, in West Branch. He was a carpenter most of his life and was owner of the Slach Construction Company in West Branch. He was a former member of the West Branch City Council and served on the West Branch Fire Department for several years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the West Branch United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Alan of Richton Park, Ill., and Gary of West Branch; one daughter, Connie Martin of Janesville, Wis., one sister, Anna Clark of Iowa City; two brothers, Edwin of West Branch and Arnold of West Liberty, and three grandchildren.
