Kimberly Kay Glawe was born February 5, 1971, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Kenneth and Lynda (Cooley) Glawe. She attended school in Marion, graduating from Marion High School with the Class of 1989. She married Richard J. Kacena on March 25, 1995, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Iowa City. For many years, she was happily employed at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, and was a long-time Girl Scout Leader for Troops #1332 and #1123 of GSEIWI. Kim was a very supportive Mom and loved her family and friends with all her heart. She was one that everyone would say that she was always smiling and she had never met a stranger - our “Miss Social Butterfly” - and was always willing to help someone in need. Even after she was diagnosed with cancer, she was supportive to her new "battle buddies" with walks and fundraising to offering a shoulder to lean on and ears to listen. She enjoyed reading, watching the Hawkeyes, enjoyed her cats, and liked shopping. Nearest and dearest to her heart was being married to Rick, a mom to her kids, best friends with her siblings, and a dear friend to many.

Her surviving family includes her husband, Rick; their children, Rebecca, Megan and Dylan “DJ”; her siblings, Brian Glawe, Shawn Glawe (Joy), and Stephanie Nelson (John); step-father, Jim Bender; her mother-in-law Carole; her brother-in laws; Larry, Gary (Pam), and Tom (Ellen); her sister-in-law, Casey; numerous nieces and nephews, and of course, her “cat babies”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and father-in-law, Stan Kacena.
