Lynn K. Donohue Akers, 69, lifelong Iowa City resident, passed away Thursday, November 2nd at The Bird House Hospice after a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, November 9th at 10 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Steven Witt officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Bird House: Hospice Home of Johnson County or Iowa City Hospice.

Lynn was born November 13, 1947 in Iowa City, to Walter and Margaret Leuz Donohue. She attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and Regina High School. Her junior year, Lynn attended Monticello College Preparatory School in Alton, IL, but returned to Regina her senior year and graduated in 1965. After high school, Lynn attended Ottumwa Heights College.

Lynn was united in marriage to Patrick C. Akers on December 27, 1969 at St. Mary’s Church. Pat passed away in 1992. Lynn was the receptionist and assistant for Dr. John T. Bauer, D.D.S. for 30, retiring in 1997.

Lynn is survived by two sons, Mark Akers and his sons, Masen Akers and Landen Akers and Matthew Akers (Angela Friesenborg); one sister, Ann Altman of Cumming, GA; close cousins, Jack Leuz and Alan Schnoebelen (Nancy); extended family and longtime friend and companion, Jerry Masanz and longtime high school friend, Carol Quinn Albaugh.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Julie Jensen for all the years of friendship and care, and to Iowa City Hospice and The Bird House and their staff.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, J.H. Donohue and Mary Welsh Donohue and Paul Leuz and Elsie Schnare Leuz; and Marilyn Leuz Stewart.
