Jim Neuzil, 88, of Oxford passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics with his family at his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Cosgrove. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial back at the Parish Hall.

Jim was born December 3, 1928, in rural Johnson County, the son of Frank and Loretta (Scheetz) Neuzil. He graduated from Cosgrove High School. He married Laurel Cook at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City on August 31, 1950. He served in the United States Army.

He was a member of St Peter’s Catholic Church and was a lifelong Johnson County Farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, gardening, especially tending to his sweet corn patch. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved his John Deere tractors. Later in life he enjoyed making scroll saw, fret work clocks, shelves, butterflies, etc. He took great pleasure in giving them away.

He and Laurel enjoyed spending winters in Everglades City, Florida where Jim enjoyed the weather, fishing, visiting with friends, and playing tennis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Medical Hospital or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years; his children: Kathy (Rick) Funk, Susan (Tom) Hoyt and Jimmy (Patty) Neuzil; eight grandchildren: Heather Bergantzel,
Jeremy Hoyt, Kari Schabilion, Janelle Hill, Jennifer Neuzil, David Funk, Jessica Neuzil and Jamie Neuzil; eight great-grandchildren: Dallas Hill, Corbin Hill, Hudson Hoyt, Wyatt Kendall, Max Schabilion, Maci Hoyt, Bella Kendall and Gavin Kendall; his sister, Patricia Dohrer; and his sister-in-law, Jean Neuzil.

Jim is also survived by numerous friends, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gerald and Francis; and his brother-in-law, John Dohrer and his faithful companion Muffie.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the UIHC CV-ICU staff and Lantern Park for their compassionate care for Jim.
