Kirk Michael Walther, 61, of Iowa City passed away Sunday, September 24th at home among
family.

Kirk was born January 28, 1956 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Ray Walther and Margaret
Shaffer. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Kirk opened and operated the Record
Collector which has been open in Iowa City for 35 years. Kirk created a musical and
artistic community enjoyed by many in Iowa City and beyond.

Kirk was survived by his wife Eleanor Steele, his son Marcus Walther of Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
his Sister Kim (Loy) Todd of Lincoln, Nebraska and by his extended family, friends, as well as
beloved present and former employees.

Kirk cared for and respected people from all walks of life, generously giving his time and resources to many. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Shelter House
and Friends of the Animal Center Foundation of Iowa City. A gathering to honor Kirk's life
will take place at a later date.
