Carol Jean Mann, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2017 in her hometown of Iowa City, Iowa. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Carol’s life will be held on Friday, September 15 at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road in Coralville, from 4-7 pm with a prayer and time of sharing to begin at 7 pm.

Carol was born in Hammond, IN on December 11, 1932, the daughter of Jesse and Helen (White) Duple and sister of Maxine (Duple) Baldwin. Carol was named by her mother because she was born so close to Christmas. She grew up on Lake Dale Carlia, IN, where you could usually find her swimming. Carol’s only chore was avoiding chores. In high school she was on student council, an actress in plays, homecoming queen, and valedictorian; all alongside her best friend, Betty Smith.

After attending school in West Liberty, IA, Carol married John Hofmann and started to build her family: daughter Diane (Hofmann) Condon, sons David, Larry, and Todd Hofmann. She later married Harold Wright and had her youngest, Steven Wright and went on to find the love of her life, D.J. Mann. After, she started and operated her own cleaning business, House Beautiful, with her daughter for over 20 years. She lived life as an adventure, and enjoyed reading, watching TV, shopping, gardening, swimming, traveling, and watching sunrises on the beach. She dreamed of going back to Hawaii because she loved it so much. Her greatest pride was her family, though, and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents and sister. She is survived by her children, Diane Condon, David (Deb) Hofmann, Larry Hofmann, Todd (Tannie) Hofmann, and Steven Wright; her grandchildren, AJ Hofmann, Ashlee Hofmann, Adam Hofmann, Mike (Autumn) Hofmann, Shanea Condon, and Hailey Condon; and her great-grandchildren, Evan Hofmann, Hoon Hofmann, Graclyn Hofmann, and Aiden Staub; and her best friend, Betty Smith. She was a great matriarch of the family and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Carol appreciated and enjoyed everyone she crossed paths with. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and wonderful laugh.
