William J. “Bill” Madden Jr., 87 of Iowa City, Iowa died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Lantern Park Nursing & Care Center in Coralville, Iowa.

Bill’s wishes were to be cremated.

Private family services will be held. Instead of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or a Hospice organization of your choice.

Bill was the youngest of three, son of William and Elizabeth (Lee) Madden Sr., Bill grew up in Stratford, CT.

A Korean War Veteran, Bill served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years. After the military he graduated from the University of Bridgeport where he was also a key member of the basketball team.

Bill enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage to Elizabeth Dobas, and the couple had five children together.

Construction sales was his employment for most of his life, later he worked as the Parts Department Supervisor for Sikorsky Aircraft.

An avid sports fan, founding member of Stratford Old timers Athletic Association, Bill enjoyed Basketball, Softball and Golf with his buddies as well as attending NFL games, with a lifelong love of the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens.

Always living every moment to its fullest and being the life of the party. Super Bowl was a Holiday in the Madden household - an epic event for all those who attended. If Bill had a soundtrack it would be sure to include jazz, though he liked all music, jazz was his favorite.

Bill will be greatly missed but in classic Bill Madden fashion, the family asks you in memory - throw on Dave Brubeck’s Take Five, raise your Martini and smile! Toodle-loo Bill!
