Sunday, March 12, 1876, Dubuque Daily Times (Dubuque, Iowa)
Page: 5The Iowa City Press says: On Saturday occurred the death of, by self-inflicted poison, of John, eldest son of the late Charles H. Berryhill. He has led a dissolute life for many years, spending his patrimony and wasting strength in disgraceful dissipation. He had not been for a long time resident here, but on Saturday returned, and appeared to be on one of his usual debauches. He strayed into Hiney’s saloon and soon gave symptom of being under the influence of opium. Doctors were sent for, and it was than apparent he was dying of an overdose of morphine. The fatal result followed at 8 o’clock in the evening.
