Carole J. Nutter Moore, 84, of Iowa City, died Friday, July 28, 2017 in the Palliative Care Unit at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 4th at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be held Thursday at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City
from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, with a parish wake service beginning at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Carole requested that memorials be directed to the Holden Cancer Center at UIHC, St. Anthony’s Bread or UIHC Palliative Care.

Carole Joan Nutter Moore was born in Jolley, Iowa on August 18, 1932, the daughter of James H. and Lorraine (Clark) Nutter. She attended Rockwell City High School, graduating in 1950. She attended Iowa State University and graduated with a B.S in Home Economics in 1954. After college, she taught home economics in Algona, Iowa.

On July 28, 1956 she was united in marriage to James R. Moore at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple settled in St. Paul, Minnesota where Carole taught high school home economics and adult education classes in Minneapolis.

To this union, six children were born. The family lived in St. Paul, MN for 14 years.
In 1971, Carole and Jim returned to their hometown of Rockwell City, Iowa to raise their family. Carole was a Cub Scout den mother and a 4H leader. She was a church organist for many years for the St. Francis Catholic Church in Rockwell City, and accompanied numerous weddings and funerals.

She and Jim retired to Iowa City in 1988. In Iowa City, Carole was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, P.E.O. Chapter JF, University Club and the Nathaniel Fellows of the D.A.R.. Carole volunteered over 5000 hours at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting and quilting. Carole was an avid and loyal Hawkeye fan.

Carole was an exemplary and engaged grandmother – supporting her grandchildren’s activities in three states!
She is survived by her six children, Dr. James Moore of Farmington, Missouri, Kathryn Breitbach (Paul) of Iowa City, Iowa, Dr. John Moore (LeAnn) of Ames, Iowa, Kristin Huber of Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Joseph Moore (Tiffany) of Jesup, Iowa and Anne Schlabaugh (Neil) of Wellman, Iowa.

In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, James, Jacob, Joshua, Stephen, Molly, Jason, Peter, Noah, Katelyn, Claire, Jay Michael, Cecilia, Theodore, Jaiden, Hope, Haiden, Braiden, Jack and Lance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1993 and a brother, Joe C. Nutter.
