G. L. DAY’S DEATH SUDDEN: MANY MOURN

Dr. George Lewis Day, of Lone Tree, die suddenly in an Iowa City hospital, last night, a little after 8 o’clock.

A few minutes before eight he was chatting happily with relatives planning on his return to Lone Tree, where he hoped to go Sunday, as he had made splendid headway following an operation for stomach ulcers, some days ago.

He walked with his loved ones in the hall, until the 8 o’clock call for closing hours for visitors and then he reentered his room. Preparing for bed, he was suddenly stricken by a startlingly unexpected turn for the worse, and he soon passed away, despite all that science and skill could do to save him.

The remains will be laid to rest Sunday in the Lone Tree cemetery, following services at his home, at 11 a. m. that day.

He was a native of Muscatine, Iowa, was 52 years of age; and had practiced at Lone Tree since his graduation from S. U. I’s college of medicine, 27 years ago, class of 1895.

Surviving are his widow, two daughters and an adopted son—Florence, at home, Alice (Mrs. Charles Hacke) of Mercer county, North Dakota; and Raymond, of the same county.

Mr. Day was a man of strong character: wide scholarship, and large ability, and he enjoyed in a marked measure the respect and esteem of his fellow-citizens. In his home community, the shock of his sudden death will be a cruel, lasting blow. Throughout the community, where the capable physician and surgeon was liked and admired, he will be missed and mourned.
