Kirk W. Riessen, 48, of Riverside, IA, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, IA. Burial will be in Morgan Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or American Cancer Society.
Kirk was born on December 31, 1968 in Battle Creek, IA, the son of Herbert and Reva (Krueger) Riessen. He served in the Marines as a Lance Corporal until leaving in 1991. Kirk was an IT Tech for various places throughout his career, retiring due to disability in 2004. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Coralville, IA and the Disabled American Veterans. Kirk was active in the Veterans Liberty Center too. He enjoyed kayaking, Tai Chi, and playing games with his friends at Hobbie Corner in Iowa City. Kirk also enjoyed spoiling his beloved Sadie and Buddy.
Kirk is survived by his four siblings, Peggy (Jack) Gallagher of New Tripoli, PA, Ronda (Les) Chapman of Grand Haven, MI, Brad (Diane) Riessen of Ricketts, IA, and Laurel (Kenny) Kaiser of Cheyenne, WY; two aunts, Elfie Riessen of Schleswig, IA and Marion Riessen of Harlan, IA; uncle, Alfred Lutz of Santa Fe, New Mexico; ten nieces and nephews; and nine great nieces and nephews.
