Charles “Chuck” Couch, 86, longtime resident of Iowa City passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at The Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church (day chapel) in Iowa City with The Very Reverend Rudolph Juarez officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am until service time. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.

Chuck was born in Chicago, IL on November 12, 1930 to Lucille and Albert Couch. He entered the United States Army at an early age and retired in 1965 after serving for 20 years in Personnel and Payroll. He then went on to work for Iowa Job Service as an Office Manager for over 22 years before retiring in 1989. He married Joan Trapp in 1986 while living in Des Moines.

Charles was active in The Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree and held every office while living in Oregon from 1989 – 2001. He belonged to the local train club, and had an elaborate layout in his home. He was also an amateur radio operator from 1970 – 2001.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy Peksa and his first wife Maria.
Charles is survived by his wife Joan, three step-daughters: Dawn Pruter (Rick), Kathy Groom-Jones (Glenn), and Lana Groom; three step-grandsons: Nic Pruter (Stacy), Luke Pruter (Brittnee), and Jacob Jones; and two step-great-grandchildren: Emerson and Aubree Pruter; and a brother-in-law Rich Peksa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Patrick’s stained glass window fund or to St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus.
