She was born in Licking, Missouri, but lived most of her life in Anamosa, the community she loved and the place she considered home. Later in life, she dedicated her life to Jesus Christ, and was buried with Him in baptism on August 23, 2015, by her son Duane and Pastor David. She loved reading the Bible and singing hymns in part because they brought her back to her childhood upbringing as a preacher’s daughter.
