Eleanor L. Kron, 91, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at her home.

Her family will greet friends Friday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Funeral Services will then begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Pries will officiate. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Eleanor Kron Memorial Fund.

Eleanor was born January 31, 1926 in Chicago, the daughter of Wilhelm and Gertrude (Luther) Jacobi and grew up in Chicago. She graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago and received her nursing degree from Grant Hospital - also in Chicago. Eleanor served in the Nurses Cadet Corps during WWII.

Later moving to Iowa City, Eleanor met Edwin “Eddie” Kron on a blind date and the couple began their first date by going roller skating. Things kept on rolling and she and Eddie were married on June 24, 1950 in Iowa City.

Eleanor worked for many years as an RN in the ophthalmology department at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. She later transferred to Mercy Hospital in Iowa City and then to Beverly Manor Care Center – also in Iowa City.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City and was a founding member of the Senior Bowling League. Eleanor and Eddie very much enjoyed dancing and were active members of the Toujours Dance Club and the Merry Mix Dance Club in Cedar Rapids. She also helped initiate the formation of Sweet Adeline’s in Iowa City.

Survivors include her children, Mary Elizabeth Kron, Marc Kron and Margery Kron, all of Iowa City; a brother Robert Jacobi (Geraldine) of Calamus, Iowa, a sister Julie Wulf (Terry) of DeWitt, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eddie in 2001 and a
brother Bill Jacobi.
