Richard Lee Hodson, 83, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully at the University of Iowa Hospitals surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. His sense of humor, loyalty and love for family will always be remembered. Per his request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Milan, Illinois.

Richard was born on August 7, 1933 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Guy and Elsie (Dean) Hodson. He was a graduate of Sherrard High School and attended Black Hawk Community College.

Serving in the Korean War, he was in the Air Force 136th Fighter Bomber Wing, enduring weather extremes at Taegu AFB while keeping planes maintained.

On July 26, 1953, Richard began a 62-year marriage with Jacqueline Williams in Coal Valley. He built their home in Milan, Illinois where they lived for 21 years. They moved to Iowa City in 1978, after transferring with MidAmerican Energy, where he worked for 41 years.

Richard is survived by his children: Cynthia (Mike) Kerber of Normal, IL, Shari (Ronald) Cole of Iowa City, IA, Randal (Lisa) Hodson of Evergreen, CO, Lisa (Robert) Linhart of Littleton, CO; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 2 sisters.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline, his parents, a brother-in-law Richard Williams, and a grandchild Kellie Cole.
