Warren W. Cheadle, brother of the late Mrs. Frank Secrest, and well known here, passed away at 7 o'clock Sunday morning at his farm home southwest of Iowa City. Suffering a weak heart, he had been ill for the past several weeks.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Oathout funeral home. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.

He was born in Morgan county, O., December 19, 1862, the son of C. C. and Abigail Brill Cheadle. He had seven brothers and sisters. After his mother's death when he was two years old, his father married again and to this union three children were born. Of the group of brothers and sisters, two brothers and two sisters survive, all residing in Ohio.

In addition, he is survived by his widow, four children and nine grandchildren. The children surviving are: Vincent of Enderlin, N. D.; Mrs. Inez Stoner of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Pearl Alexander of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Myrtle Staley of Omaha, Nebr.

Mr. Cheadle grew to manhood on a farm near Stockport, O. He came to West Liberty in 1884 and was married to Maleta Faires in 1887 and the couple resided on a farm near West Liberty where their children were born. The couple moved to the farm on the outskirts of Iowa City in 1903 where they have resided for the last 26 years. His grandparents were among the earliest settlers of Ohio, having come from Virginia. They were strong abolitionists and his Uncle Royal Cheadle was active with the underground railway preceding the Civil War. They underwent hardships and privations because of their devotion to the belief that the Negro should be free.
