Lawrence J. “Whitey” Breer, 90, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Private family services will be held.

Lawrence was born on December 20, 1926 in Lewisville, MN, the son of William and Elizabeth (Reiland) Breer. He was raised on a farm near Lewisville and graduated from Elkton High School in Elkton, MN. On November 29, 1947, Lawrence married Shirley Williams in Grand Meadow, MN.

Whitey worked a job, for many years, that he loved - commercial construction and was a member of Local 1238 for over 50 years. He retired in 1984. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, fishing, camping and dancing.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Iowa City, and their three children: William Breer of Solon, IA, Kathryn (John) Wiley of Walford, IA, and Sherryl Eakes of Iowa City; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother, two sisters, and a son-in-law.
