F. James “Jim” Deuel, 85, of Iowa City, formerly of Waterloo, IA passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, December 31, 2016 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 2675 E Washington St, Iowa City. Visitation will start at 9 AM until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a food bank of your choice or The James Deuel Memorial Fund.

Jim was born on February 25, 1931 on a farm outside of Delhi, IA the son of Francis and Ula (Bigelow) Deuel. He graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1951. Jim was united in marriage to Beth Treichel on March 16, 1957 at First United Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. He was an optician for over 40 years, retiring in 1991. Jim was an avid John Deere collector. He loved country music especially Johnny Cash.

Jim is survived by his wife, Beth; three children, Brenda Mayer (Phil Auterman) of Iowa City, Timothy Deuel of Killeen, TX, and Steven (Flo) Deuel of Ankeny, IA; one sister, Mary Lou Everman of Washburn, IA; three grandchildren, Christopher Mayer, Jennie Weland, and Justin Deuel; two honorary grandchildren, Lucas and Markus VanTol; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Mayer-Rich, and Samuel Weland; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; infant-daughter, Dawn Diane Deuel; siblings, Fred Deuel and Virginia Weldon.
