Robert "Bob" T. Mooney, 83, of Iowa City and formerly of Champaign, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City.
Robert was born September 11, 1933 in Urbana, IL to Thaddeus and Adelaide (Lowry) Mooney. He graduated from Champaign Senior High in 1951 and the University of Illinois in 1956. Robert was a commissioned officer in the US Navy from 1956 until 1965, serving as a Naval Aviator for three years. On January 13, 1979, Robert married the former Barbara Burlison in Urbana, IL.

At the University of Illinois Robert earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1956, Bachelor of Architecture professional degree in 1962, and Master of Architecture degree in 1969. Beginning in the 1960s he worked in the Champaign firm of Richardson, Severns, Sheeler and Associates and became a Registered Architect in 1965. He later served as a professor of architectural design for over 30 years at the University of Illinois’ School of Architecture and retired as professor emeritus. His research into the built environment included photographic studies of the historic architecture of Native Americans, the Mississippi River corridor, and the Oregon Trail. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, hiking, and trips to Wyoming with his wife and son. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Iowa City, IA; and son, William and daughter-in-law Meagan of Kingwood, TX.

A Funeral Mass will be held on December 28, at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, Bongard, IL.
