Janet "Jan" Blaser Sirois, 86, longtime resident of Iowa City, passed away on Saturday,
November 19, 2016.Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A parish vigil service will follow the visitation at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Officiating will be Father Steve Witt and Father John Blaser.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Regina Foundation.
Jan was born December 17, 1929 in Tiffin, Ohio, the daughter of Herman and Loretta (Bauer) Blaser. She grew up in Fostoria, OH and graduated from St. Wendelin High School in 1947. She received a Home Economics degree at Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania. Jan worked as a product demonstrator for Ohio Electric in Fostoria, OH. In 1952 she met her future husband, Robert, at a wedding where her brother Don was marrying Robert's sister Terri. They fell in love, were married on May 8, 1954, and remained happily married for sixty-two years. In 1958 Jan and Bob moved from Toledo to Iowa City, where they raised their five children.
Jan was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, as well as a supporter of Regina Catholic Education. She enjoyed her Bridge Club and Red Hat Society. She cherished her summers at the family cabin on Seagull Lake in northern Minnesota. Reading, cross stitching, traveling and baking cookies for her grandchildren were all activities that Jan enjoyed. She was a lifelong dog lover and could often be found spoiling her springer spaniel, Lexi. Jan was devoted to her family and had many close friends.
She is survived by her loving husband Robert and their five children John (Lori) Sirois of Milwaukee, WI; Mark (Bonnie) Sirois of Des Moines; Lorie (Bill) Graham of Iowa City; Jim (Linda Muller) Sirois of Iowa City; Bill (Michelle Kattchee) Sirois of Denver, CO; eleven grandchildren, Rachel, Ryann, Josh (Angela), Bryan, Michael, Christopher, Jordan Winter, Kevin, Alec, Marissa and Michaela Sirois; brother, Father John Blaser of Oregon, OH; and her beloved dog Lexi.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Don and Bus.
