Cleo Clinton Orris, 90, of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.

A celebration of Cleo’s life will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 20th at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm prior to the service on Sunday. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 29 of Washington, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or to Gladys Orris in memory of Cleo Orris.

Cleo was born October 15, 1926 in Cotter, Iowa, the son of Hollie Herbert and Opal Ocie (Roderick) Orris. He was raised in Cotter and Columbus Junction and attended one year at AIC Business College. Cleo enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served as Boatsman’s Mate in World War II; he was discharged in 1946. On January 20, 1947, Cleo was united in marriage to Gladys I. Boyd in Ainsworth. Cleo worked in banking as Assistant Vice President at Ainsworth State Bank for 27 years and Columbus Junction State Bank for 19 years. Cleo enjoyed helping kids, assisting people in need, giving back to his community and running competitively.

Cleo is survived by his wife, Gladys and their children: Linda (Mike) Beaman of Ankeny, Judy (Craig) Jones of West Liberty, Ron (Cindy) Orris of Columbus Junction, Debbie Orris of Iowa City, and Sherri Orris of Washington, IA; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and siblings: twin brother, Milo (Donna) Orris of Washington, Donald (Loretta) Orris of Cedar Rapids and Alice Simkins of Denver, CO.

Cleo was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rex Richard Orris who was killed February 19, 1945 at Iwo Jima.
