Harriett J. Grantham Dean, 94, of Coralville, passed away in her home, surrounded by her family September 3, 2016.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Service; visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wesley House or the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.gayandciha.com.

Harriett Jane Schlotfelt was born August 12, 1922 in Benton County, Iowa; daughter of Harry and Ada (Keith) Schlotfelt. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1940, and on December 22, 1945, married Wayne D. Grantham in Lincoln, NE. Wayne passed away in 1969. In 1974, Harriett married Gerald R. ‘Knute’ Dean in Iowa City, who passed away in 1993. She had been an area resident since 1953. In her working years, she worked for the University of Iowa in the campus stores, retiring as a manager after 28 years. Harriett had also enjoyed bridge, bowling, golf, traveling and her church community and time spent helping at the Wesley House. She was a past member of Coralville and New Horizons UMC.

Harriett is survived by her son, Gary Grantham (Terri) of Solon; daughter-in-law, Linda Grantham of Coralville; step-daughter, Geralyn Lenoch (Steve) of Coralville; grandchildren, Ty Grantham of Coralville, Leah Cronk (Dennis) of Iowa City, Carly Kleppe (Tim) of Solon, Hallee Harrison (Tim) of Solon and Clint Grantham of Virginia Beach, VA and Tom and Chris Lenoch of North Liberty; great-grandchildren, Gunnar Grantham, Nicholas, Kylie and Hannah Cronk, Madisen and Keagan Kleppe and Timothy and Chyler Harrison.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Pat Grantham; step-daughter, Anne Dean; three brothers and three sisters.

Harriett’s family would like to thank Unity Point Palliative Care and Iowa City Hospice for the compassionate and genuine care they provided over the last few weeks.
