Robert E. Froehle, 82, died Wednesday, August 17th at Mercy Hospital under the compassionate care of Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 20th at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a time of sharing will be held at 6:30 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital Foundation or Iowa City Hospice.
Robert was born August 10, 1934 in Bancroft, Iowa, the son of Frank and Alvina (Fangman) Froehle. Bob attended St. John’s High School in Bancroft, where his team won the Iowa State Baseball Tournament in the fall of 1951. Robert served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He received his bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University and his Masters degree from Western State University. On June 2, 1959 Robert married Janet Milewsky in McGregor, Iowa.
Bob taught business education at Iowa City Central Junior High and Iowa City City High School for 37 years, retiring in 1997, prior to that he taught at Buffalo Center, Iowa.
He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, time spent golfing and playing cards with family and friends. He was an avid reader and fan of University of Iowa sports and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed the winters spent in Mesa.
He was a member St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Bob survivors include his wife, Janet and their four children, Steve (Dawn) Froehle of Scottsdale, AZ, Beth (Tom) Simpson of Iowa City, Scott (Kim) Froehle of Mesa, AZ and Pamela (Craig) Kuhse of Mesa, AZ; ten grandchildren, Jay, Allen, Grant, Morgan, MacKenzie, Tommy, Tatum, Nelson, Jana and Jack; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Helen Elsbecker, six brothers, his twin, Richard, Dennis, Maurice, Donald and Gerald, and infant brother Gordon.
