Dapkeo Khamphavilay, 30, of Coralville passed away on Tuesday, August 16th at UIHC after a sudden illness surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Dapkeo was born April 21, 1986, in Laos to Somphone and Oum Khamphavilay. He and his parents moved to Iowa City in 1991. Dapkeo attended school at Roosevelt Elementary, Northwest Junior High, and Iowa City West High School. Dapkeo worked at several restaurants in the area including Red Lobster and Outback Steakhouse. He also worked for United Natural Foods and was currently working at Oral B in Iowa City. Dapkeo was known as an extremely hard worker who never turned down any overtime.

Dapkeo married Alounny Vongsihalath on November 11, 2011 in Laos. Their son Kevin was born on June 20, 2014. They are expecting their second child in late February. Dapkeo loved being a father and providing for his entire family. His second passion in his life was weightlifting and he often spent many late nights in the gym after work.

Services will be Saturday, August 20th, at Lensing’s Funeral Home in Coralville at 2:00 pm. The family will welcome friends at their home after the service.

Dapkeo is survived by his wife, son, parents, and mother in-law, Naly Vongsihalath all of Coralville and his uncle, Bonner Phonsavanth from Tennessee.
