Edward K. Gruwell, Sr., 87, formerly of 837 Rundell Street in Iowa City, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City after a short illness. Edward was born February 4, 1919 in West Branch, the son of Roy & Iona (Huffman) Gruwell. He married Eudenia Eggenburg on May 17, 1939 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He worked for 28 years for the University of Iowa campus mail service, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church and also a member of the Iowa City Eagles Lodge for nearly 60 years. Survivors include a son, Edward (Mary) Gruwell Jr. of Riverview, Florida; a daughter, Judith Kadera of Middleton, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Scott Kadera, Mark (Deborah) Gruwell, Dawn (Willis) Reed, Todd Gruwell, Craig (Lori) Gruwell and Kevin (Cheryl) Kadera: six great-grandchildren, Brittany and Seth Reed, Melissa and Kaili, Kyler and Christian Gruwell; one sister in law, Nora Eggenburg and many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his wife Eudenia of 66 years. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Thomas Novak, Amenity Hospice and all the staff at Bickford Cottage – for all of their help and loving care. Visitation:
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 – 6:30 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Service:
A funeral service will be held at 6:30 pm. Private burial will be Saturday at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
