Martin J. Clements Jr., 69, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa.

Martin Joseph Clements Jr., was born May 25, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son of Martin J. Clements Sr. and Jane C. (McMurray) Clements. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie with the class of 1965, and earned his Bachelor of Science from Coe College in 1970. He married his former wife, Marilyn J. Robinson on February 4, 1967 in Cedar Rapids. He worked for many years in management at Osco Drug, until 1978 when he took a management job at Lewis Drug in the newly opened Rushmore Mall in Rapid City, South Dakota, then working for Boyd’s Drug before concluding his retail management career, and beginning a career with Banker’s Life & Casualty before returning to Cedar Rapids in 1991 where he would work for Pickwick Manufacturing.

During high school Martin lettered in football all four years, as well as track and field and baseball, resulting in his induction into the Prairie High School Hall of Fame. For many years he coached baseball, at first for his two sons, and eventually alongside his two sons. While in Rapid City, South Dakota he served as chairman for Harney League Sports.

Martin loved watching his children and grandchildren in their many activities, often traveling hundreds of miles to catch a game or two. He also had a passion for music and singing. While at Windmill Manor, he led the other residents in many singing activities. The third passion in his life was sports, especially track and field and baseball. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and could never understand how he could raise three children who were St. Louis Cardinal fans. He spend his last days enjoying his family, listening (as well as singing and dancing along) to some of his favorite 50-60’s music, and making people smile.

His family includes his former wife, Marilyn Clements; his son, Kevin Clements and his girlfriend, Shelly Bratt of Coralville and Kevin’s children Briana and Brendan Clements and Keely Ammerman and her husband, Shane and their children Connor and Levi, Martin’s daughter, Christina Wilson and her husband, Chris of Gunnison, Colorado and their children, Caleb and Brady Wilson, and his son Jason Clements and his wife, Sonya of Coralville and their children, Allison and Aidan Clements.

Martin has gifted his body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy, and family services are being planned.
