He was born in Wurtenburg, Germany, October 4, 1822, soming [sic] to this country with his parents, brothers and sisters in the year 1830. They resided in Ohio until 1840, at which time they came to Johnson county, Iowa.

In 1858 he was united in marriage to Fanny Miller, a native of Pennsylvania. This union was blessed with thirteen children, three of whom and his wife preceeded him to the better world. He was a successful tiller of the soil and held a number of township offices. On the morning of the 10th he became suddenly ill with pneumonia, only lingering until evening. For many years he was a faithful member of the United Evangelical church, always living a clean, upright life, so that nature could raise up in him and say, "He was the man."

The funeral services will be held Monday forenoon at Sharon Center, the party leaving the house at 10 o'clock. Rev. S. N. Remage will have charge of the services and the interment will be in the Sharon Center cemetery.
