Herbert Paul Neubauer Jr., 71, of Oxford, passed to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, July 28, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, Iowa City. A luncheon to honor Herb’s life will be served at the church following the service.

Private burial will be in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo.

Memorials may be made to Systems Unlimited or Rural Employment Alternatives.

Herbert was born on September 6, 1944 in Waterloo, the son of Herbert Sr. and Betty (Hatch) Neubauer. He was a graduate of Iowa State University where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity and earned scholarships in both golf and wrestling. Herbert was united in marriage to Bonnie Gohlinghorst on May 29, 1966 in Omaha, NE.

The majority of Herb’s working career was spent in the medical diagnostic field. His accomplishments included being involved with the introduction of the first CAT scanner in the U.S. and the first free standing MRI. Herb retired from his own medical consulting company Medical Perceptions in 2006. Herb had a great love for physically challenged children and sports. He organized, coached and served on many boards of organizations that promoted sports activities for these children, including Special Olympics, Kansas City Wheelchair sports along with many others. He and his family received numerous awards and recognitions for their contributions to these causes. Herbert was a lifelong Presbyterian and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie; two sons, Kip and Tyson Neubauer; two brother-in-laws, Conrad (Barbara) Gohlinghorst and Rick Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharon Brown.
