Don Carter, 59 of North Liberty, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Don’s family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Thursday, July 21 at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. In lieu of flowers an educational fund for his grandchildren has been established in care of the Don Carter Memorial Fund.

Don was born on September 19, 1956, the son of Orville and Alene (Morris) Carter in Hampton, Iowa. At the age of 9 Don moved to Iowa City with his family. In 1975 Don met the love of his life, Diane Stepp; the couple was married on February 14, 1976 at Coralville United Methodist Church.

Don was a graduate of Iowa City West High School and worked in maintenance for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 31 years, retiring in 2012. Don was an avid motorcycle rider, starting to ride at an early age. Don enjoyed bow making and many family members have wonderful memories of Don and his hobby. He loved refinishing antique furniture and making wood projects for family. He was a passionate gardener, genealogist, hunter and fisherman. Don would take his children when they were young to rendezvous where he taught them to enjoy and respect nature. He also loved playtime with his two adorable granddaughters.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Diane and their three children, Bethany Carter, Jeremy ( Jaimie Schultz) Carter and Josh (Courtney) Carter; two grandchildren, Makenna and Quinn; his siblings, Dan (Deborah) Carter and Nancy (Robert) Sines; his uncle and aunt, Gaylord Carter and Creta Thirtyacre and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Alene, and his sister, Janice Nienhaus.
