Steven A. Dawson, 73, of Iowa City, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday July 25th and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City. Family inurnment will take place at North Scott Cemetery. Memorials in Steve’s name may be made to Iowa City Hospice or through www.DefeatGBM.org, with the National Brain Tumor Society. Steven Allen Dawson was born June 9, 1943 in Iowa City; son of Thomas B. and Rose R. (Gingerich) Dawson. After attending Lone Tree #1 and Catholic school in Hills, Steve graduated from Keota High with the class of 1963; while at Keota, making all conference as a football lineman. On October 24, 1964, Steve married Karen Hotchkiss in Kinross, Iowa, and several years later moved to Iowa City. In 1977 he started his business, Action Sewer & Septic, which is now run by his son, Mark. Steve was a hard working individual, and if he started a job, it got finished! He cherished time spent with his family, and loved being a husband, father and grandfather. He was always thinking outside the box, especially when it came to gifts for his grandkids or projects around the house. Annual fishing trips to Canada were always a welcome pleasure.

His family includes his wife, Karen; sons, Mark (Alicia), Brad and Scot (Ginger); grandchildren, Aubree, Davis, Cale and Bram Dawson and Jaci and Joli Loughran-Dawson and his siblings, Thomas Dawson, Barbara Riggan and James Gingerich.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William, and Step-father, Ned Gingerich.
