Glen A. Fletcher passed on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Friendship Village Hospice in Tempe, Arizona after a short illness associated with mesothelioma.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at United Church of Crawfordsville. Burial will be at Crawfordsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers The Glen Fletcher Memorial Fund has been established.
Glen was born July 1, 1951 in Washington, Iowa, one of four sons born to Vernon and Ruthe (Hammond) Fletcher. Glen grew up in Crawfordsville, Iowa where he was a member of the United Church of Crawfordsville. He graduated in 1969 from WACO High School where he participated in baseball, basketball, and football.
In 1970 his daughter Cassandra was born and in 1971 his daughter Jennifer. His daughters were the love of his life.
After high school, Glen continued to play softball in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. After his playing days were over, Glen became an avid golfer. It was with golf that Glen found a profession of teaching the game to others and served as golf pro at many courses in Illinois. Glen moved to Phoenix, Arizona seven years ago to pursue his love of golf year round, and worked at #1 Golf Travel Tours & Vacation Homes. He eventually switched careers and started working for Blue Sky Transportation were he found many close friends that became his family. In addition to working at Blue Sky, Glen started his own company, Fletcher Transportation.
Glen resided in Illinois for many years. In1980, Glen married Brenda Fidler. They were married for 25 years and after dissolving the marriage they remained lifetime friends. They both shared a love of golf and animals. They surrounded themselves for the care of animals, including a squirrel named Rocky.
Glen was a proud grandfather and would travel to Iowa several times a year to visit his children and two granddaughters. When he visited Iowa he always made time to visit family and often find time to play a round of golf with them. Glen was an avid Hawkeye fan and would watch at afar any chance he could.
Glen is survived by his two daughters, Cassandra Molander of Wayland, Iowa and Jennifer Olson (Joe Good) of Burlington, Iowa; two granddaughters, Reagan Olson and Quinn Scarff; his former spouse, Brenda Fidler Fletcher; brother, Stan (Mary) Fletcher of Lake of the Ozarks; sister-in-laws, Sheri Fletcher of Iowa City and Ann Fletcher
