Donna Marcene Gordy, 85, a long-time resident of Amarillo, Texas and most recently of Iowa City, Iowa, died Friday, April 29th at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Visitation will be from 3-5 pm on Sunday, May 8 at Lensing Funeral Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa with prayers and memories shared about 4:30pm. A graveside service will be held at the IOOF cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa at 11:30 am Monday, May 9.

Donna was born February 4, 1931 in Bloomfield Iowa to Glen and Reva Clyman and lived in Bloomfield until her graduation from high school in 1948.
Donna married Leonard E. Gordy in June 1948 and was a devoted wife until his death in 2007, just short of their 60 year anniversary. She was a member of the Paramount and Hillside Christian Church in Amarillo Texas and was also a long time member of the First Christian Church in Burlington, Iowa.

Donna had a wonderful dimpled smile and was quick to laugh with a great sense of humor. She loved good food, socializing with friends, playing various card games, attending and watching almost all Hawkeye sports and was a VERY vocal fan. Her favorite sports to enjoy on television ranged from ice skating, tennis, basketball to NASCAR.

She enjoyed playing piano and attending any type of musical performance, especially those performed or conducted by her granddaughter. Her home was a treasure trove of collections, the biggest of which was a collection of owls that numbered in the thousands. As a remembrance, please feel free to take one (or a dozen) home with you. A gift from Donna (and her children!).

Donna is survived by two children; Kathyl Jo Jogerst (Dr. Gerald Jogerst) of Coralville, Iowa and Macey Neal Gordy (Cathy Young) of Humble, Texas, two grandchildren; Jonathan Jogerst (Casey) of Portland Oregon and Ashley Wilson (Darin) of Eldridge, Iowa, two great-grandsons: Everett Jogerst and Griffin Wilson, (who were the lights of her life in her later years) sister-in-law: Bonnie Clyman of Bloomfield, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, sister and brother-in-law Madeline and Dawson Martin, and brother, Neal V. Clyman.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers over the past year and a half. This includes the staff at Legacy Ridge, Briarwood Healthcare Center, Oaknoll Health Center, Homewatch Caregivers of Iowa City and Dr. Nicholas Butler. Your care, concern and kindness will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hillside Christian Church in Amarillo, Texas or the Legacy Ridge Activities fund to honor Donna’s memory with a musical event for the residents.
