Freda M. Griffin, 89, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Legacy Gardens in Iowa City.
Her family is hosting a greeting time on Saturday, May 21st at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City from 11:00 to 12:30 pm. A Memorial Service will begin at 12:30. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.

Freda was born August 29, 1926 in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Roy & Cora (King) McArtor. Raised and educated in the Wellman area, Freda was trained as a Beautician and worked for several salons in her early years.

She met and married Robert S. Griffin on Nov. 16, 1948. They made their home in Iowa City, where Robert worked as a meat cutter. Freda’s work was keeping the family home and raising her children, and later worked for the Iowa City Schools and Mercy Hospital in Food Service.
Robert died in 1975, and Freda eventually moved to California for a number of years where she enjoyed the weather that allowed her to take the daily walks which she loved and to be near several of her children and grandchildren. She spent her last few years in Iowa City which she always considered her home.

Survivors include her children, Michael Griffin (Sharyn) of Modesto, CA, Bruce Griffin (Julie) of Iowa City, IA, Karen Bell (Joe) of Tampa, FL, Rebecca Dalo (Jerry) of Ladera Ranch, CA, and Scott Griffin (Jennifer) of Eden Prairie, MN, a sister and brother, Norma Schlabaugh of Broomfield, CO, Orlo McArtor of Kalona, IA, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, one sister and three brothers.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Legacy Gardens for their patient and caring assistance during the very difficult last few months, and Hospice Compassus for their help and care during the last weeks.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, to help fight this disease which affects so many.
