Joseph “Joe” Tschampl, 85, died peacefully Thursday, March 24th.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1PM Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Sioux City, with Father David Hemann officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 PM at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Service, Coralville, where a vigil will be recited at 6 PM. Visitation will also be from noon to 1PM, Tuesday at St. Michael’s Church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name.

Joe was born January 25, 1931 in Yugoslavia, currently Slovenia, the son of Alois and Rosalia Tschampl. He immigrated to the United States in 1952 from Austria. Joe was a lifelong resident of Sioux City (1952-2014), only recently moving to Iowa City to be near his daughter. On June 14, 1958 Joe married Eunice S. Dorr in Sioux City.

Joe was employed at Armour Packing Company in Sioux City for over 29 years, briefly residing in Milwaukee and ten years in Sterling Rock Falls, Illinois.

Joe is survived by his loving daughter, RoseMary (Mark) Fiagle of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Fiagle of Lawrence, KS, Bethany Fiagle and fiancé Tony Damiano of Minneapolis and Adam Fiagle of Iowa City; his siblings, Alois Tschampl of Sioux City and Maria Tschampl , Josephine “Fini” Schemitsch, Erna Tschampl and Elfrieda “Elfie” (Walter) Kircher, all of Austria; sister-in-law, Lulu Grauer of Cherokee; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eunice in 1993, and siblings Johan, Franz and Rosalia.
