Leeanne Barnhart, 71, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Lantern Park Specialty Care, Coralville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Iowa City with The Very Reverend Rudy Juarez officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center or Lupus Foundation of America: Iowa Chapter.

Leeanne was born on March 14, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of Leland and Ethel (Wieneke) Barnhart. She worked for the University of Iowa in the Center for Disabilities and Development for over 20 years. Leeanne was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. She enjoyed helping out at The Johnson County Humane Society, Iowa City Community Theater and was a reader for Hospice. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, photography, and traveling abroad. Leeanne had a big heart and could not say no to helping animals in need, especially her seven cats.

Leeanne is survived by her brother William (Mary)Barnhart of Fairfax, IA; a niece and nephew, Jill Bertrand of Boston, MA, and Joel Barnhart of Fairfax, IA; and extended family. Leeanne was preceded in death by her parents.
