Barbara June (Gregory) Mahaffa of Iowa City passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016, in her home. As per her wishes, a graveside service will be held at a later date in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Moweaqua, Illinois.

Barbara was born on October 29, 1932, in Moweaqua, Illinois to Richard Earl and Freda Loree (Roach) Gregory. She graduated from Moweaqua High School in 1950, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois in 1954 and a Masters in Child Development at Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois in 1974. She was a kindergarten teacher for most of her career at Brookview Elementary School in Rockford, Illinois. She married Roy Mahaffa in 1957 and lived in Rockford, Illinois for 50 years prior to moving to Iowa City in 2007.

Barbara is survived by her son Gregory (Mary) Mahaffa of Iowa City, daughters Julia (Randy) Gates of Tucson, Arizona and Sarah (Kevin) Miller of Camano Island, Washington and grandchildren, Elizabeth and Maggie Mahaffa and Aida and Forrest Miller. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Mahaffa, Jr. and by her parents, Richard Earl and Freda Loree (Roach) Gregory.

Barbara was a member of Centennial United Methodist Church while in Rockford and St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Iowa City. She participated in many volunteer organizations and was an active member of her church. She was a fun, loving and compassionate person who will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Iowa City, Centennial United Methodist Church in Rockford, or to Iowa City Hospice.
