Orlene M. Maher, 75, of Iowa City, died Monday, January 11, 2016 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Her family will greet friends Friday from 12:30 – 2:30 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A memorial service will follow at 2:30. The family kindly requests that instead of flowers, that memorial’s be directed to The Orlene Maher Memorial Fund.

Born November 4, 1940 in Griswold Iowa, the daughter of Edward & Selma (Mueller) Schrader, Orlene went to Atlantic High School. She moved to West Branch after starting her family, eventually winding up in Iowa City.

She worked for over 30 years at The Iowa City Press Citizen, holding a number of different positions, including accounting, advertising and even manning the front desk and phones.

Orlene enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes, working with puzzles and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, John (Char) Maher and Scott Maher, all of Iowa City; Patricia (Randall) Damon of Des Moines and Mike Maher of Arkansas; a brother and sister, Owen and Onetah; grand-daughters, Janice, Teresa, Amanda and Caitlyn; a great-grandson Paul and a great-grandson scheduled to be arriving soon.
Her parents and 2 sisters died before her.
