Nancy Rayner Straus Winner Kotteman, 88, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Mercy Hospital.

The family will greet friends Sunday, December 13th from 2 to 5 PM at The Kirkwood Room (next to Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service), Iowa City. Her body has been deeded to the University of Iowa College of Anatomy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The University of Iowa Foundation for the Carver Family Center for Macular Degeneration or to Planned Parenthood.

Nancy Kottemann was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 27, 1927, the daughter of Rayner and Miriam (Moses) Straus. Nan was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She married Donald Winner in 1950. They later divorced. She married William P. Kottemann, D.D.S. on June 6, 1970, he died in 2004.

Nan was a swimmer, a bridge player and an avid Hawkeye fan of many sports, traveling to wrestling tournaments and football games. She was past president of University Club and Athens Book Club. She volunteered for several community organizations, including Hancher and Hospice.

Nancy is survived by her children: Michael (Ellen) Winner of Mills River, NC and their children Rachel and Frank; Barb Winner (Ernie) Larew of Marion and their children Andy (Molly) Larew, Katie (Craig) Woychik; Jan Winner (Tom) Beal of Cedar Rapids and their children Justin and Elyse; Bill (Jean) Kottemann of Orono, MN and their sons Kraig (Laura) and Scott (Camille); Bob Kottemann (Cindy Carper) of Nashville, TN; Brent (Pam) Kottemann of Iowa City and their children Brooke (Ben) Hill, Blake, Lisa (Dave) Lewis, and Luke.

She is also survived by six Great Grandchildren; Jason and Jack Larew; Reese and Ethan Hill; Valerie and Olivia Kottemann. She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson.
