Orville Carter, 95, of North Liberty, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family.

His family will greet friends Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private burial will follow on Saturday in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty.
Instead of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

He was born October 21, 1920 in Fairfield, Iowa, to George & Frances (Kindred) Carter. Orville grew up during the Depression and the family often moved from town to town, farm to farm, wherever there was work that would support the family.

Orville met the love of his life, Alene Fern Morris, and later the couple were married on July 12, 1940 in Forest City, Iowa.

Orville farmed for many years in and around Hampton, Iowa before moving his family to Iowa City in 1965. He continued to farm in Johnson County, as well as raise cattle and train horses.

Orville also found time to work for The Iowa Dept. of Transportation (Oakdale Shop) for 18 years.

He was a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and The Iowa City Saddle Club.

Orville is survived by his children, Carol (Monte) Kammerer of Gresham, Oregon, Dan (Deborah) Carter of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi, Nancy (Robert) Sines of Hiawatha, Kansas and Don (Diane) Carter; 14 grandchildren, Mike, Jerry, Kathie, Tammie, Travis, Chad, Jamie, Shannon, Ashley, Dan, Amy, Jeremy, Joshua and Bethany; 23 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren;
a sister, Creta Thirtyacre of North Liberty and a brother Gaylord Carter of Gilbertville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alene and their daughter Janice Nienhaus, a grandson, Jeffery Kammerer, a great-granddaughter and numerous brothers and sisters.
