Bernard Francis Sobaski was born January 30, 1929, in Pleasant Plain, Iowa; son of Joseph H. and Dorothea G. (Kurtz) Sobaski. After high school he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On September 3, 1955 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Strohman. Together the couple founded three local businesses, two of which their children now operate; a feat that required hard work and a strong work ethic, qualities that have been passed on. When not working, he always enjoyed time gardening. Bernard will also be remembered for his sense of humor.

Bernard and Betty have attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City and he was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
