Darlene M. Nelson, 83, lifelong resident of this area died Friday, May 15, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the River Community Church in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Darlene Mae Schooley was born March 17, 1932, in West Liberty, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and Myrtle (Greenway) Schooley. She attended schools in the Springdale/West Liberty areas, married in this area and worked for the University of Iowa, as Head of Housekeeping for the Iowa House for over 28 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of River Community Church, the Red Hat Society, and Topps. She was a member of the Iowa Food Bank Organization; one she took to heart and volunteered her time religiously. She enjoyed her pets, the state fair, traveling, camping and singing. She loved being wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother to her family and many others who crossed her path. Mom had so many so called adopted kids, grandkids in her years and her door and heart was always open!

Her family includes her children, Kathy Rains (Damon Nichols) of Montezuma; Jerry Tisinger (Susan) of Raleigh, NC; and Ron Tisinger (Susan) of Saratoga, CA; step-children, Juanita Nelson of Iowa City; Donna Duree (Gene) of Poplar Bluff, MO; Jim Nelson (Kim) of Solon; and Mike Nelson (Janine) of Earlham, IA; Jeanette Lanstrum (Terry) of Boone; and John Rose (Becky) of Newcastle, WY; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; former husband, Gene Tisinger; and her cat. Barney.

She was preceded in death by her former husbands, Jim Nelson and Gene Rose; and brothers, Don, Ray and Leslie Schooley.
