Eric W. Sandberg, 68, of Coralville, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals.

Eric Warren Sandberg was born December 18, 1946 in Rochester, Minnesota to Marian and Warren Sandberg of Zumbrota, Minnesota where he grew up and graduated from high school in the class of 1964. He graduated with a BS degree in Biology from the University of Minnesota, where he continued graduate work. Following graduation he worked in business and sales in Minnesota and Iowa. In July, 1985 Eric began a successful career as a Certified Financial Planner in Cedar Rapids for American Express (known later as Ameriprise Financial Services). He retired in September, 2014. He earned National Conference and Incentive Trips awards, received accolades as a member of the Master Planner Club and was the recipient of the Mercury Award.

Eric Sandberg and Jayne Jackson of Iowa City were married in January, 1981. They enjoyed a large group of friends and neighbors wherever they settled their home: Twin View Heights and Indian Hills in Solon and finally on Jessica Lane in Coralville. Eric's interests throughout his life as a businessman, devoted husband, step-father and grandfather, and loving son and brother included, golfing, hunting, fishing, canoeing, and playing cards and board games. He loved basking in the summer Iowa sun next to a hunting or companion dog. Eric's travels included trips to Mexico, Hawaii, the Northwest and frequent jaunts to Minnesota to visit family.

Eric was an active member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, serving as an elder, a participant on various committees and participating in Bible Study groups over the years. He was active in the National Kidney Foundation of Iowa, devoting time and his keen business acumen for the benefit of other diabetics.

Eric will be remembered for his enduring optimism and deep compassion for others. His work as a financial advisor is a testament to his active and daily engagement in hope and commitment in the service of his fellows.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Marian (Olsen) Sandberg.

Eric’s family includes his wife, Rebecca “Jayne” (Beene) Sandberg; daughter, Dianah Jackson (William Mickle) of Bainbridge Island, WA; granddaughter, Claire Cheung; sister, Mary Meyer of Great Falls, MT; brother, Stuart Sandberg (Sue) of Indianapolis, IN; nephews, Chris and Kirk Meyer and Rob Sandberg and niece, Alex Sandberg.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m., Thursday, May 7th at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City with a time of fellowship following. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
