Portia L. Anderson, 83, of 2801 Highway 6 East in Iowa City, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday. January 16, 2004.

Portia’s wishes were to be cremated. Private services will be held. Burial of cremains will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice, Inc. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is in charge of arrangements.

Portia was born January 19, 1920 in Iowa City, the daughter of Earl & Marguerite (Miller) Anderson. She graduated from Iowa City High School. Portia was a medical assistant for many years. She also was a seamstress and an accomplished artist.

Portia grew up in Iowa City and moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1952. She returned to the Iowa City area in 1994.

Survivors include three sisters, Lorna Negus & her husband Lew of Iowa City; Loretta Patterson, also of Iowa City and Joyce Dobson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; one brother, John Anderson & his wife Marie of Richardson, Texas; one aunt, Gertrude Owen of Iowa City and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Joseph.
