Earl R. Meyer, 93, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa.

Funeral Mass will be Friday at 2:30 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Reverend Steve Witt will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 pm Friday at the church. Burial is planned for Monday, January 21st at 1:30 pm at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Instead of flowers, Earl requested memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice or The Regina Foundation.

Earl was born October 25, 1919 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Gustave and Katherine (Kuhn) Meyer. Raised in Sigourney, Earl served for four years in the Army Air Corp as a Lt. Col. during WWII. Moving to Iowa City in 1948, he began work at Barron Motor Supply – retiring in 1983 after 34 years of service as store manager.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Iowa City Elk’s Lodge and the University of Iowa Alumni Association.

Surviving are cousins – including George House of Sigourney and Larry Hoffman of St. Joseph, Illinois.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Martina “Marty” Meyer.
