Diane “Dinny” Stamp

Diane “Dinny” Stamp died December 27, 2012 after a courageous seven year battle with melanoma at Mercy Hospice Care surrounded by her children.

There will be a celebration of her life Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 1-4 p.m at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The New Horizon Band, Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospice Care. Dinny deeded her body to the University of Iowa for medical, education and research.

Dinny was born January 30, 1930 to Melzar and Leona Falkenhainer in Algona, IA. She moved to Red Oak, IA as a young girl and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1947. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO and then the University of Iowa, graduating in 1951 with a degree from the College of Commerce (renamed the College of Business Administration in 1952.) Dinny was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.

Dinny married Daryl Stamp in 1949 and they made their home in Iowa City where they raised their three children. She worked for the Iowa City School System starting at Southeast Junior High in 1970, moved to Central Junior High, then to the Iowa City Community School Board Office and returned to Southeast Junior High as the principle’s secretary where she retired in 1996. She was active as a score keeper for various school sports, was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Green Bay Packer and St. Louis cardinal fan. She loved to read and play bridge, travel and spend time with her children, grandchildren, grand dogs and friends. In retirement, she joined the New Horizon Band playing trombone. She made many lasting friendships, and traveled to band camps through out the United States and Europe. She also was a member of the Senior Center and performed with the Senior Center Dance and Drill Team.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Randy and Gina Stamp of Olympia, WA; Deb and Jon Beringer of Sioux City, IA and Tracy and Cindy Stamp of Iowa City. Dinny has five grandchildren: Daniel Stamp, Stefany Stamp, Amy (Derek) Radke, Tim (Mindy) Beringer and Shannon Stamp. She was preceded in death by her parents.
